Traditional Ciupaga Axe – Edelweiss Edition

The ciupaga axe is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Polish highlanders from the Tatra Mountains. Historically carried by shepherds, hunters and mountain guides, the ciupaga served as a walking staff, tool and weapon, becoming an essential part of Podhale culture. This handcrafted interpretation brings the spirit of the traditional highlander axe into a refined, modern collectible made in the Papstomahawks forge.

The head is hand-forged from 1055 carbon steel, shaped in the elegant, sweeping form typical for classic Tatra mountain ciupagas. The clean finish highlights the smooth geometry of the blade and the subtle forging marks left by the hammer.

A distinctive detail of this piece is the edelweiss etching near the eye of the axe. The edelweiss flower is strongly associated with alpine and high-mountain regions and has long symbolized courage, honor and resilience among mountain communities.

The long wooden shaft gives the ciupaga its traditional silhouette, while the hand-stitched leather grip improves handling and adds a rustic, heritage-inspired character. The result is a piece that blends traditional Polish craftsmanship, mountain culture and functional design.

Whether displayed as a collector’s highlander axe, used as a ceremonial walking axe, or added to a historical weapons collection, this ciupaga represents the timeless identity of the Tatra highlands.
